Interview with Adeline Naintré, founder of the brand Haspen // LISAA Alumni
Adeline Naintré graduated in Fashion and Textile Design 2012 from LISAA Fashion. She created with her sister Lorraine, her own brand, Haspen, specialised in knit sweater design.
LISAA: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE YOUR OWN BRAND?
Adeline: After I graduated in fashion and textile design from LISAA, I worked for six months at Sézane, first on a work placement and then freelance. There was a very special atmosphere there where anything seemed possible, where founding your own brand was easy. So, in turn, I also wanted to launch my own brand. All I had to do next was find the perfect idea! I realised that I found it difficult to find original, high-quality knitwear at a reasonable price, so I said to myself that there was probably a gap in the market!

WHERE DOES THE NAME HASPEN COME FROM?
Haspen was directly inspired by Aspen, the American ski resort with an atmosphere that we all dream of: a place where elegance and nature combine—a real guiding line that can be found in our brand and our designs.
WHAT SETS HASPEN APART?
Having specialised in textile design for my studies, I have always liked working with patterns and textures. Haspen’s signature is its graphic and colourful designs. The patterns for SS16 are filled with nature and the irregularities of surfaces and textures, contrasted with ethnically-inspired patterns. The chic and relaxed style of Haspen is defined by loose and comfortable cuts, and it is timeless and ageless.
WHAT ARE YOUR UPCOMING PROJECTS?
Gradually Haspen is evolving. Continuing with this guiding line of patterns inspired by nature, we are launching a line of shirts for winter 2017 with my own prints.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE STUDENTS WHO WANT TO LAUNCH THEIR OWN BRANDS LIKE YOU?
I think it’s really essential to have someone by your side—it’s a real driving force!
Adeline Naintré, LISAA fashion graduate 2012
I think you have to realise that setting up your own brand doesn’t just require creativity: there is the whole administrative, accounting and finance side which requires lots of time and work. That is the reason why I teamed up with my sister Lorraine who manages all of that side, because I think you can’t do everything. I think it’s really essential to have someone by your side — it’s a real driving force!
